plunge into the promise

plunge into the promise

UrbanPromise Los Angeles was founded in 2019 by Dionté and Meg Grey, a couple of urban missionaries with a passion for God and education who believed that more youth deserved the opportunity to lead and become who they were made to be.

our origin story:

Co-Founders Dionté & Meg took a courageous leap of faith to move their young family across the country from North Carolina to California in 2019 to follow the call of God to start a non-profit in LA!

They were determined to expand opportunities for the kids and youth of Los Angeles, and had seen first-hand the impact of the internationally successful UrbanPromise model in Charlotte, NC serving as program staff.

Inspired by Abraham’s faith in Romans 4:25 - “He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God would make good on what he had said ” they packed up their two young daughters and set off for LA.

With no guarantees, but a deep sense of hope that God would move, they recruited 5 local teens as StreetLeaders who shared their vision and passion for change. Together, they began building solutions to the needs in their neighborhood (Canoga Park) and addressing the challenges faced by at-promise youth in their community.
