about the streetleader Program

UrbanPromise employs and empowers local high school students as counselors, tutors, and mentors for the children who attend our AfterSchool Programs and Summer Camps.

The purpose of the SL program is to equip the teens in our neighborhood with the skills and character they need to become the next generation of servant leaders in their own neighborhoods.

StreetLeaders are trained in servant leadership with the end goal of enacting the Cycle of Restoration - to reach a child, raise a leader, and restore community.

Our ultimate hope is that StreetLeaders will see the impact their leadership can have on their community today, be empowered to pursue higher education, and return to their community to serve in meaningful careers, becoming the leaders who transform their own communities from the inside out.

Through our year-round Growth Lab trainings, StreetLeaders are equipped and empowered to lead with:

  • Weekly opportunities to complete volunteer hours mentoring local kids in their community

  • Leadership development training

  • Spiritual development and a safe space to explore their faith through weekly Bible study

  • A summer employment opportunity

  • The chance to earn trips to college campuses, LA hot spots, other UrbanPromise sites around the nation (and globe!) and more!

  • 1:1 support in the college application process - help discovering a major, finding colleges or programs that might be a good fit, college essay reviews, help finding & applying to scholarships

  • A built-in community of other teens & young adults who care about making a difference and changing the future of LA!

NOW HIRING - SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR STREETLEADERS - StreetLeaders plan and lead UPLA’s entire camp under the supervision of staff and college interns.  From leading high energy skits and songs in the morning, to sports, STEM lessons, reading skills practice, writing workshops, Bible classes and community reflection circles our StreetLeaders are the true heroes of Summer!

PLUS, get the opportunity to chaperone our weekly field trips to the hottest destinations all around LA every Friday of camp all while earning a paycheck for their leadership.
